Caffeine can acutely influence energy expenditure and fat oxidation, but a short-term metabolic effect should not be equated with large or durable weight loss.

Coffee vs coffee supplements

Ordinary coffee is a beverage with naturally occurring caffeine and other compounds. A coffee supplement can add concentrated extracts, minerals, amino acids or other ingredients. Evidence for coffee itself does not automatically validate an added formula.

Keep outcomes separate

“Raises energy expenditure,” “supports metabolism” and “causes clinically meaningful weight loss” are different claims requiring different evidence.
